The iconic British artist Peter Doherty, vocalist of The Libertines, will perform his first concert in Bulgaria on May 8, 2026 at Sofia Live Club, at the invitation of Sofia Live Festival. The event marks the long-awaited meeting of the Bulgarian audience with one of the brightest and most controversial figures of contemporary British music. An author, poet and musical storyteller whose influence far transcends the boundaries of genres.
The concert in Sofia is part of the tour supporting Peter Doherty’s fifth solo album – Felt Better Alive, released on May 16, 2025 through his own label Strap Originals. The album debuted at No. 7 in the official UK chart, the highest solo ranking of Doherty’s career and comes nine years after his previous solo record.
Felt Better Alive is a beautiful collection of short musical stories that move between acoustic intimacy and orchestral sensitivity, with elements of indie folk and country, carrying a delicate melancholy, but also unexpected lightness, humor and inner light. The songs were written in Normandy, in the French coastal village where Doherty lives with his family, at a time of deep personal and creative concentration. Some of the compositions were born in parallel with the work on the latest album of The Libertines – All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade (No. 1 in the UK in 2024), but took their own path and became the basis of the new solo project.
In the recordings, Doherty worked with producer and musician Mike Moore (Baxter Dury, Liam Gallagher), and the result is a short but dense album of 11 songs, in which the personal story of love, fatherhood, survival and a sober view of life takes center stage. Highlights include the singles “Felt Better Alive”, “Pot Of Gold”, “The Day The Baron Died” and “Calvados”, which present Doherty in one of the most confident and candid phases of his career.
Peter Doherty’s path is well-known, from the turbulent rise of The Libertines in the early 2000s, through Babyshambles, solo albums and numerous creative incarnations, to his current image as an artist who remains restless, but focused, vulnerable and extremely productive. Today he is not only a frontman and a songwriter, but also a label owner, part of several active projects and a musician who continues to create with unadulterated honesty.
The concert on May 8, 2026 at Sofia Live Club is Peter Doherty’s first meeting with the Bulgarian audience. An intimate club event that promises intimacy, raw emotion and songs told as only he can – directly, poetically and without filter.
