Sofia Live Fest has spent the past years quietly and confidently reshaping the idea of what a boutique European festival can be. Rooted in the restless energy of Bulgaria’s capital, the festival has grown into a spot for adventurous listeners, a place where global headliners and rising Eastern European voices share a stage without hierarchy or pretense.
Since its start in 2021, Sofia Live has become one of the region’s defining cultural movements. Its first edition was a blast, immediately crowned “Event of the Year” by Bulgarian media, and each summer since has widened its scope: Massive Attack’s brooding trip-hop minimalism echoing through the trees; Michael Kiwanuka’s warm, analog soul melting into the dusk; James Bay, Molchat Doma, Chet Faker, Kovacs, DJ Shadow, Atmosphere, Selah Sue, The Horrors, JV&B and dozens more bending the festival’s sound from indie rock to darkwave to modern jazz.
By 2026, SLF stands not simply as a festival, but as a living portrait of contemporary European music – its tensions, its hybrids, its raw emotional charge. Staged across the lush expanse of Borisova Garden’s historic Cycling Track, the festival embraces its outdoor identity: open-air stages framed by pine trees, neon spilling across the grass, and late-night sets that blur into the city’s skyline. Intimate performances at Sofia Live Club offer a counterpoint – close, atmospheric, and immediate.
SLF’s programming is defined by contrast and curiosity. This is a place where indie rock’s emotional punch collides with left-field electronica, where boundary-blurring regional acts stand shoulder to shoulder with established international names, and where the line between audience and artist feels exhilaratingly thin. SLF is the only Bulgarian festival to be nominated for the European Festival Awards four consecutive years — a recognition that firmly places it among Europe’s leading independent festivals.

But Sofia Live isn’t just about big names—it’s also a platform for Bulgaria’s emerging voices. The festival has consistently championed young Bulgarian artists with global sensibilities, spotlighting their original sounds in front of an engaged and adventurous audience. This is more than a lineup; it’s a statement of intent, a reflection of a music scene that refuses to be hemmed in by geography or convention.
As a member of YOUROPE – The European Festival Association, Sofia Live Festival doesn’t merely embrace diversity; it thrives on it. The programming extends beyond music, with a focus on arts, audience development, and cultural innovation, creating an ecosystem that values connection as much as sound.
Sofia Live Festival 2025 isn’t just a music festival—it’s a cultural heartbeat, an ever-evolving experiment in what a festival can be. Whether you’re a crate-digger, a casual listener, or someone chasing that elusive live-music high, this is where you’ll find it. It’s not just about the summer heat or the artists onstage; it’s about the moments in between, where music and memory collide.

Inclusivity
Sofia Live Festival is for everyone. Regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability, or cultural background – all are welcome.

At Sofia Live Festival, sustainability isn’t a trend—it’s a responsibility. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting conscious choices at every level of the festival experience.
