French composer, multi-instrumentalist and visionary Yann Tiersen, creator of some of the most recognizable and emotional film soundtracks of our time “Amélie”, and “Good Bye, Lenin!”, will perform his first club concert in Bulgaria on March 2, 2026 at Sofia Live Club, at the invitation of Sofia Live Fest.
Yann Tiersen arrives with his new project “Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour”, a captivating solo concert for piano and electronics, in which the musician once again crosses the boundaries between classics, experimental minimalism and emotional electronics.
In an era of climate crisis, Tiersen changes the idea of touring and questions the capitalist norms on which the music industry is built. In recent years, he has undertaken solo trips across Europe, from Brest to Tallinn, without a team and without unnecessary comfort, with only his dog for company. He drives at a limited speed, sleeps in the gardens of people who shelter him, and refuses all the typical requirements of stars – hotels, catering, dressing rooms.
Part of his mission is also sailing on the sailboat Ninnog, with which he has already toured Ireland, the Faroe Islands, Scotland, Shetland, Wales and Cornwall, and in the summer of 2025 he added the Arctic to this route. There, on the open sea, far from the noise and weight of the world, Tiersen finds inspiration for his new music.
The album Rathlin from a Distance contains eight piano compositions inspired by these voyages, meditations on nature and man. Tiersen says: “There’s something transformative about being at sea. Away from the noise and the weight of the world, you’re left with the primal forces of nature and yourself.”
He describes his music as a “map to yourself,” leading to that essence that is often lost under the pressure of societal expectations. “It’s a call to connect, to be vulnerable, and to find solace in the authenticity that comes when you confront the forces around you and within you,” says Yann Tiersen.
The second part of the project, The Liquid Hour, is a counterpoint – an energetic electronic flow that intertwines psychedelic rhythms, rage, and hope. The sound of resistance against the systems that suffocate the world, and a call for a new beginning – cleaner, freer, more human.
Yann Tiersen‘s concert at Sofia Live Club promises to be more than just a musical experience, but an intimate encounter with an artist who creates art beyond forms and genres – with honesty, vulnerability and a deep connection to nature and the human soul.
