Fifteen years after their only visit to Bulgaria, The Cinematic Orchestra is returning to Sofia. On October 11, 2026, the legendary British band will perform an exclusive club concert at SOFIA LIVE CLUB at the invitation of Sofia Live Festival. In addition to the iconic compositions from their catalog, the band will also present new music that will be performed for the first time in front of an audience, as well as a renewed concert lineup with new musicians.
For more than two decades, the project, created by Jason Swinscoe, has occupied a unique place on the world music scene, blurring the boundaries between jazz, electronica, neoclassical, downtempo and soul. Each subsequent release of The Cinematic Orchestra expands this musical world, without losing its characteristic emotional signature rich in space, cinematic images and human sensitivity.
In 2019, the band returned with their fourth studio album To Believe, which critics have called one of their strongest works to date. It features Jason Swinscoe and long-time collaborator Dominic Smith working with artists such as Moses Sumney, Roots Manuva, Dorian Concept, Grey Reverend and Heidi Vogel, creating music that combines intimacy, hope and delicate melancholy. The album received rave reviews from The Guardian, The Independent, Q Magazine, GQ and Bandcamp, with The Observer calling it a “triumph” in a five-star review.
Over the years, The Cinematic Orchestra have released four highly acclaimed studio albums, including Every Day and Ma Fleur, which includes one of their most recognisable compositions, To Build A Home, which has racked up hundreds of millions of streams and become a modern music classic. Alongside their albums, the band has also created impressive film soundtracks, including the new score for Dziga Vertov’s avant-garde masterpiece Man With A Movie Camera, as well as the music for the Disney documentary Crimson Wing. The composition Arrival of the Birds gained worldwide popularity after being featured in the film The Theory of Everything.
The Cinematic Orchestra’s concerts have long become an artistic experience in their own right. Combining live instruments, electronic textures, impressive vocals and visual environments, the group has sold out stages such as the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Sydney Opera House, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Philharmonie de Paris, as well as festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Montreux Jazz Festival, Sonar and Fuji Rock.
The concert at Sofia Live Club will be a rare opportunity for the audience to hear both The Cinematic Orchestra’s most beloved works and the first excerpts from their upcoming new album, on which the group is working between London, Los Angeles and Lisbon together with a new generation of musicians and authors. Sofia is among the first stops where this new chapter will be presented to an audience.
On October 11, 2026, Sofia Live Club will become a space where jazz, electronics and cinema will once again meet in the characteristic way of The Cinematic Orchestra, beautiful, cinematic and deeply emotional.
