On April 3, 2026, Sofia Live Club will become the stage for one of the most impressive concerts that the Sofia audience can expect, namely the arrival of The Frank Gambale ‘All-Star’ Group, at the invitation of Sofia Live Festival. The event brings together the extraordinary energy of world-renowned guitar virtuoso Frank Gambale and his international formation of musicians, whose names sound with the power of true stars.
Frank Gambale is one of those musicians who don’t just play, but rewrite the rules of music. A Grammy winner and three-time nominee, he rose to prominence on the L.A. scene in the 80s and was quickly declared “ferocious!” by Rolling Stone – a label that still fits him perfectly today. He has over 20 albums and more than 300 original compositions behind him, in which he mixes rock, funk, jazz, R&B, Latin and Brazilian rhythms in his own, recognizable style.
He is a legend not only for his music, but also for the innovation with which he changed guitar technique forever. The Gambale Sweep Picking Technique he created became a world standard and inspiration for entire generations of guitarists in the jazz, rock, metal and progressive scene. The biggest names in music speak of him with admiration: Chick Corea says that “everything he touches turns to gold” and that Frank is his favorite guitarist; John McLaughlin jokes that he would “cut off his hands” to stop his incredible virtuosity; Pat Metheny dreams of taking a “month off to study with Gambale”, and Dweezil Zappa admits that thanks to his technique he was able to play the most difficult parts of his father’s music.
Born into a family of musicians in Canberra, Australia, Gambale grew up among the blues and rock legends of the 60s and 70s. In his teenage years, jazz and vocal music broadened his horizons, and an interest in piano further enriched his musical world. When he returned to the guitar with new inspiration, he brought with him the deep musicianship that makes him so recognizable today.
The Frank Gambale ‘All-Star’ Group offers a hot and extremely diverse musical spectrum that will be a real feast for all guitar lovers. On stage, Frank effortlessly transitions from a bold electric sound to a velvety smooth jazz tone, and often reaches for the acoustic guitar. He also impresses with a silky soft yet powerful voice that can surprise those hearing him for the first time, although his long-time fans are well aware of his vocal talent. The star formation brings together exceptional musicians from the world stage – bass virtuosos Federico Malaman and Martin Gudics, the always impressive drummers Gergo Borlai, Yoann Schmidt and Marcell Gudics, keyboard wizards Jerry Leonide and Tom Schuman, as well as the magnificent lead vocalist Boca Gambale.
